Are Tory Burch Miller Sandals Out of Style in 2025? Here’s Why I’m Still Wearing Mine

Are Tory Burch Miller Sandals out of style in 2025? Here’s why I’m still wearing mine

I originally wrote this last year after seeing a stylist on TikTok confidently declare that the Tory Burch Miller sandals were out of style. She stood in the middle of a department store, dismissing them as “dated,” and I was genuinely bothered by it.

But plot twist: scroll through TikTok today, and you’ll find hundreds of other videos (and comments) claiming the exact opposite—that the Miller sandals are timeless.

It just proves the larger truth: fashion trends aren’t rules—they’re fleeting suggestions. In today’s overwhelmed landscape of nonstop information and algorithm-driven noise, it’s nearly impossible to tell what’s actually in style and what’s just being pushed at us

If you love these sandals, you’re not alone—and you’re not out of style.

Why Tory Burch Miller sandals are a modern classic

Some pieces earn their place in your wardrobe, year after year. And Tory Burch Miller sandals have become one of those pieces.

They’re a modern classic—a preppy icon—right up there with the L.L.Bean Boat and Tote, a worn-in denim jacket, and a timeless pair of Ray-Bans. They’re well made, instantly recognizable, and endlessly wearable.

Whether you style them casually or dress them up a bit, they’re not going anywhere—because real women keep wearing them.

Why calling timeless pieces “dated” is just bad advice

What bothers me most is the pattern. Lately, some influencers—especially those who say they speak for “real women”—seem more interested in pushing content than helping women build wardrobes that actually work.

That matters. As a former stylist, a business owner, and a mom of three, I know how much thought and money go into every purchase. Most women are juggling work, kids, homes, and relationships—and spending $200 on a pair of sandals is not a throwaway decision. It’s an investment (of sorts). It’s certainly not a throw away purchase.

And let’s be honest: the economy is a mess. Groceries feel like luxury items. Housing is unaffordable. Childcare costs more than some people earn in a month. So can we stop pretending like everyone has money falling from the sky? And even if you do, I know you don’t want to waste it.

If you bought these sandals a few years ago, on what planet are we now telling women to get rid of them just because someone on TikTok said so?

And have we all forgotten about the actual planet?

We say we care about sustainability. We talk about building wardrobes that last. We say we want to reduce our footprint and keep things out of landfills. Then, in the very next breath, we’re treating moderate to investment-level purchases like fast fashion—declaring them “over” just because a new trend dropped. It makes no sense.

Fashion can’t be both environmentally conscious and endlessly disposable.

Of course, some things go out of style. I’m not saying you should hold on to every piece forever. I don’t want you to. Style evolves—and that’s part of the fun.

But there’s a big difference between updating your wardrobe thoughtfully and tossing great pieces just because someone decided they’re not “in” anymore.

And let’s be for real: yes, trends come and go—but some of them are silly. Barrel jeans? They’re having a moment, sure. But they’ll be gone before you know it. Have you seen a single pair of barrel jeans on this site? No. Because I’m not going to tell you to spend money on something short-lived and impractical.

But the Miller sandals? Stop it right now.

Most of us have pretty basic lives. These are my summer go-to. They’re my dress-up flip-flops—the perfect blend of comfort and polish. I wear them all season long, I have very little occasion in the warm weather to wear anything more formal. And I’m not going to stop just because someone needs a new viral fashion opinion.

Remember when skinny jeans were “out”?

This isn’t the first time the internet tried to cancel something practical. Remember the war on skinny jeans?

We were told to burn them, as if the jeans that carried us through school drop-offs, dinner dates, and everything in between were suddenly offensive. But millennials didn’t cave. We wore what worked—and we still do.

If something fits, flatters, and makes you feel confident, no trend should take that away.

And guess what? Skinny jeans were declared “back” in style just 16 months later. So what were we supposed to do—light them on fire and then go re-buy them a year later?

Why Tory Burch Miller sandals are still in style in 2025

Tory Burch Miller Sandals in a rainbow of colors, available at Nordstrom

You know why they’re still in style? Because consumers are telling us they are. Women are still buying them. Still wearing them. Still reaching for them on hot summer days, for casual dinners, and on beach vacations. They are still a best seller.

They’ve become a staple for a reason.

The Tory Burch Miller sandals are well-made and versatile. With clean lines, signature branding, and neutral tones like tan, black, ivory, or soft metallics, they go with everything.

How to keep them feeling fresh in 2025

If you’re buying a pair or want to keep yours looking current, you can go for a timeless neutral, a metallic or a pop of color.

  • Warm tones? Try tan, cognac, or black
  • Cooler tones? Look for ivory or soft metallics
  • Or add a pop of color with red, pink or green.

Pick a shade that plays well with your wardrobe and personal style—and you’ll wear them for years.

Final thoughts

TikTok doesn’t decide your style. Neither does Instagram. Neither do I.

You do.

And if you love your Tory Burch Millers—wear them. With confidence. With pride. Because the best kind of style isn’t trendy. It’s personal.

Who can afford $200 sandals? I’m sure most of us can’t waste that amount on a seasonal sandal !!!

Many women can and do afford them—whether as a treat, a planned purchase, or just something they picked up. This post is for them: women who already own the sandals and are now being told by the internet they should toss them because they’re suddenly “out,” or who are considering buying them and are worried about their longevity.

The bigger point is about how trend culture creates unnecessary waste and encourages us to dispose of perfectly good pieces. And I really don’t like the shame around what women choose to spend their money on. It’s condescending and dismissive—and honestly, no one questions men’s spending habits like this.

That’s what doesn’t make sense—especially in today’s economy.

And just for the record, I always share a range of price points and believe thoughtful, personal style is possible at any budget.

I 100% agree with Melanie's comment about logos, which was something you used to dislike. Something small I is fine but a logo or corporate emblem so consuming and identifiable for expensive (to me) daywear that pops me into a stereotype, that's not for me. There are just as nice (or nicer) alternatives such as Sam Edelman.

I covet Miller sandals and white tretorn sneaks. I want to dress in away that's timeless and lasts. For heaven's sake, I still have my coach bucket bag from 1999. So, thank you for your rant. I totally agree. I agree that fashion needs to be effortless and full of quality items. Items that last more than two washings. Rant away Girl!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! This article is right on point and I agree with you 1000% As a woman who is literally at the door of 50 (July 5), I prided myself in trying to stay on trend, without it appearing as if I am trying too hard and/or trying to look like I am 25, which I obviously am not. I have worked very hard my entire life alongside my husband and we managed to raise 5 children who are independent and work hard as well. I am now able to afford things for myself like Tory Burch Miller Sandals (in fact I am ashamed to say how many pair I own) and things like the Louie Vuitton Neverfull. At this stage in my life, I purchase items for comfort, because I like them and because I think they look good on me or compliment me. I am so sick of the constant disregard for cost and quality and the disposable attitude as well. I so appreciate your honesty despite if it is popular or not!

Thank you for this!! I have been a fan of yours since I joined the well dressers life a couple of years ago thru the recommendation of a friend. I trust your advice and I love the options you provide and also your opinions on things! ! I’m keeping my skinny jeans which I love—thanks to you because I was so upset that they may not be “in” anymore. You are correct some of these influencers—-can really drive someone nuts!!!

Good for you, Megan! I just get so frustrated by some of these kids who bang on about how "Eco-friendly" and CO2 neutral they are, but they are happy to throw good stuff away because it is no longer "in". They are happy to waste money but what about all those precious resources?!

Yay Megan! Thank you for this timely post on these sandals. They are my all time favorite sandal and I will continue to wear them with my Louis Vuitton bag!

MK - you are right on! I don't purchase shoes because they are "in style." I purchase them because of comfort first then style. I WISH I could wear those pretty Miller Sandals but at my age with my back and feet, I cannot. The Finn Comfort sandals that I wear are perfect for my feet. They are well made and have, so far, lasted years. If someone tried to tell me they were no longer fashionable, I would laugh in their face. Same with a Coach handbag that I have had for 25 years. It still looks as good as when I purchased it and it makes me happy when I use it. That is stylish enough for me.

I appreciate your perspective on this item, and I couldn’t agree more that a classic is a classic. Also, wear what you love and suits your lifestyle! Interestingly, I always thought the Miller sandal was a modern take on the Jack Rogers sandals. I’m still wear those and probably won’t stop.

I LOVE how you think! It’s so frustrating when “they” say something classic is dated. It feels like a money making scheme. Love your site and I feel like we are height sisters - I’m 5’10 too! 😂

I agree with the wastefulness of fashion. I particularly enjoy the shade I get from “eco-conscious” 20- & 30-somethings when I wear my skinnies out running errands. 😂

I detest overt logos or branding so these sandals aren’t it for me. That brands wax and wane as fashionable or not is part of the reason I avoid overt logos.

Thank you for this post akd thank you for being grounded and thoughtful in your recommendations! As someone who pays college tuition, supports two teenagers in youth sports and school extra-curricular activities that require a some serious money to participate…I guarantee I look at “cost per wear” before choosing to spend $200 on flip flops (or anything else I wear truth be told). I love that I can translate better basics in my closet to a few seasons of mileage because they aren’t trendy but are classic. I view Tory Burch Miller and Patos Disk sandals as just that-classics!💕

Megan - I just recently found your blog, and I just had to say that I LOVE this post! I hate those type of statements from bloggers...along with the next $500 sweatshirt that they want you to buy. Whether we "can" afford these things or not, no one should feel societal pressure to spend a certain amount to feel stylish and/or feel it necessary to get rid of an expensive purchase because it was all of a sudden deemed "out of style". Thank you for being a necessary voice of reason to women looking to feel good in the clothes they choose!
